Our story began back in the early 70’s when our Mother, Becky McClelland, began to bake and decorate birthday cakes for me and my brother, Chris. She developed a passion for baking during her teen years, and would bake for family events as well as for family and friends. Growing up, we loved the aromas of fresh baked cakes that would come from the kitchen when Mama was baking. We always told Mama that we wanted her to open up her own bakery. Time moved on and she continued baking our birthday cakes, cakes for family events, and cakes for family and friends. Finally, in January 2006 the dream of having her own bakery was realized. Becky, Chris, and his late wife Tami began Bakies Bake Shop from a commercial kitchen and small storefront at our childhood home in East Brewton, AL. Our late Dad, Bobby, was also an integral part of seeing this come to fruition. Bobby always wanted to see the dream of the bakery come true. In 2008, the business moved to East Brewton Plaza as a Deli/Bakery serving baked goods, donuts, and sandwiches. The community loved the bakery and the Red Velvet cupcake became a signature baked item for the bakery. The business continued to grow and expanded while in East Brewton to a full service restaurant and continued to be a success.  In 2016, due to the growth and need for additional space, the restaurant moved to the Douglas Square Shopping Center in Brewton, AL. Again, the restaurant proved to be successful, but due to Tami’s health issues, the restaurant closed in 2017. It returned to the original kitchen located in East Brewton as a catering and baked goods business. From there, in 2022, Bakies Cupcakes was born. We are a small batch bakery and our products are all made from scratch with family recipes. Bakies is the home of the best Red Velvet Cupcake you will ever eat. We have been truly blessed and are thankful to Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for the opportunity to serve all of our great customers. “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28.
